HARANA MARKET
is a culinary project led by James Beard–nominated Chef Chris Mauricio (they/them), rooted in the homestyle flavors (lutong bahay), stories, and generous spirit of the Filipino diaspora.
Eat food that
makes your heart sing
Named after the traditional Tagalog courtship serenade, Harana Market was co-founded alongside life-and-business partner Eva Tringali as a celebration of their Queer, Trans, and Filipino identities, using food as a force for connection, comfort, and care.
What began as a local sanctuary for homestyle Filipino dishes like tofu sisig and fried chicken quickly evolved into a cultural touchstone for the Hudson Valley. Harana Market helped spearhead a broader movement toward visible, thriving Mom+Pop AAPI businesses across the region, demonstrating how food concepts can anchor and uplift the global majority.
Central to Harana Market’s mission is the belief that nourishment is a collective responsibility. Their commitment to community care pioneered grassroots, pay-it-forward initiatives—such as the Salu-Salo board and Chosen Family meals —creating sustainable models for mutual aid and food security that have since been widely embraced and replicated across the regional culinary scene.
Today, Chef Chris continues to serenade the region through pop-up dinners, specialized catering, meal subscriptions, and chef appearances - partnering closely with local New York State farmers and makers while honoring cultural preservation and radical hospitality. We invite you to bring Chef Chris’s celebrated Filipino flavors to your next gathering.
